Pudalangai Kootu/ Snake gourd kootu

Some of the most important health benefits of snake gourd includes to improve the strength of the immune system, reduce fevers, detoxify the body, improve the digestive processes of the body, increase hydration in the body, treat diabetes, boost the strength and quality of the hair, and aid in weight loss.
Kootu is one of the side dish that takes majority in south indian meals. Here comes the procedure:

Ingredients:

  • Main Ingredients:

  1. Snake gourd - 2 cups
  2. Channa dal - 1/4 cup
  3. Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  4. Salt to taste

  • For Grinding:
  1. Coconut - 1/4 cup
  2. Raw rice - 1 tbsp
  3. Green chilly - 2
  4. Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  5. Ginger - 1 inch
  • For Temper:
  1. Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  2. Urad dal - 1 tsp
  3. Red chilly - 1
  4. Curry leaves - 5

Cooking Instructions:

  1. Chop the vegetable into small cubes.
  2. Heat water in a pan, add the vegetable, turmeric powder and dal. Cook for 8 to 10 mins.
  3. Grind the ingredients mentioned under for grinding.
  4. Add the ground paste and salt to the cooked vegetable. Cook till raw smell goes.
  5. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter.
  6. Add urad dal, red chilly, curry leaves.
  7. Add the temper to the vegetable mixture.
  8. Serve hot with rice, vatha kuzhambu.
