Kumbakonam kadappa, a popular side dish for idly and dosa in kumbakonam, hence named. I have never heard about this recipe or name till my marriage. One day my neighbour mentioned it. I searched in net and tried one day. While doing the dish also i was not that much impressed and i done it in doubt only. But once tasted it is really yummy. For those who are boring with usual chutney, sambar for idly, dosa just give a try for this recipe and i am sure you'll get applause from your family.

Ingredients:
- Main Ingredients:
- Moong dal - 1/4 cup
- Potato - 2
- Small Onion - 10
- Ginger garlic paste - 1 tbsp
- Salt to taste
- For Grinding:
- Coconut - 1/4 cup
- Green chilly - 2
- Fennel seeds - 1 tsp
- Pottu kadalai - 1 tbsp
- For Temper:
- Bay leaves - 1
- Cinnamon stick - 1 inch
- Curry leaves - 5
Cooking Instructions:
- Pressure cook moong dal with turmeric powder and water for 4 whistles. Along with that steam potatoes cut into halves.
- Grind the ingredients mentioned under for grinding by adding little water.
- Heat oil in a pan and add bay leaves, cinnamon.
- Add Onion and saute till translucent.
- Add ginger garlic paste and cook till raw smell goes.
- Add the moong dal, salt, half cup of water and allow it to boil.
- Mash the potatoes slightly and add to the moong dal mixture.
- Add the ground paste and cook till raw smell goes.
- Adjust the water to the needed consistency and cook.
- Serve with idly, dosa, or poori.
