Pavakkai Kichadi/ Bitter gourd with yogurt curry

Bitter Gourd is an essential medicine for those who are diabetic. Though it is bitter to taste, it is full of essential nutrients. It makes an essential detoxifier and skin cleanser. Regular intake of bitter herb boost the immune system while removing all unnecessary toxins. 
I have posted bitter gourd fry recipe somedays back. Trust me this curry doesn't have a mild bitter taste too. You can simply serve with plain rice.

Ingredients:

  • Main Ingredients:

    • Pavakkai/Bitter gourd - 2
    • Green chilly- 2
    • Curry leaves - 6
    • Curd - 1 cup
    • Salt to taste

  • For Grinding:

    • Coconut - 1/4 cup
    • Mustard Seeds - 3/4 tsp
    • Curd - 2 tbsp

  • For Temper:

    • Mustard seeds - 1/4 tsp
    • Curry leaves - 5
    • Red chilly - 1

Cooking Instructions:

  • Cut pavakkai lengthwise. Remove the seeds and cut  1/2 inch horizontally.
  • Heat oil in a pan for deep frying.
  • Deep fry pavakkai. Once done remove the excess oil using kitchen towel.
  • In the same oil add green chilly and curry leaves. Fry till golden brown and remove.
  • Dry roast mustard seeds. Grind coconut, mustard and curd.
  • Add the ground paste in a bowl. Add the remaining curd, salt and mix well.
  • Add the fried pavakkai,green chilly and curry leaves.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter.
  • Add red chilly and curry leaves.
  • Add the temper to curd pavakkai mixture.
  • Serve hot with plain rice.
