Though it is simple and easier one to make and most of us know how to do it, i'm posting for beginners. Idly/ Dosa is the popular south indian recipe and almost everyday we used to have it.
Ingredients:
- Idly Rice - 4 cup
- Urad Dal - 1 cup
- Fenugreek Seeds - 1 tsp
- Salt to taste
Prepartions:
- Wash and Soak rice along with fenugreek seeds for 8hrs.
- Wash and Soak dal for 2 to 4hrs with 3 cups of water.( Don't soak dal for more time, it'll not double the quantity if soaked for more time.)
- Grind dal first along with the water used for soaking(This helps in fermentation). It'll take 15 to 20 mins.
- Grind rice by adding little water at a time. It may take around 30 to 45 mins. At the end add the ground Urad dal batter and grind along with rice batter for 2 to 3 mins for mixing.
- Pour the batter in a large vessel so that it has space for rising. Add salt and mix with your hands nicely.
- If you are living in a cold area here are some tips for fermentation:
- Preheat the oven to 50ยบ and turn off. Place the batter inside the oven and make sure to turn off the oven.
- Place the batter inside instant pot or yogurt maker and turn on yogurt mode for 8hrs.
