Paruppu Thuvayal

A very simple recipe which can be done within 10 mins. It goes well with plain rice and gingelly oil or as a side dish with rasam sadham, curd rice. I made this thuvayal whenever someone in my home is affected with cold. It is good for health too.

Ingredients:

  • Toor dal - 2 tbsp
  • Bengal Gram/Kadalai paruppu - 2 tbsp
  • Pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilly - 2
  • Coconut - 1 tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Hing -  a pinch
  • Curry leaves - 4
  • Oil - 1 tsp

Cooking Instructions:

  • Heat oil in a pan. 
  • Add toor dal and bengal gram. Roast for 3 to 5 mins.
  • Add Red chilly and pepper. Roast for a min.
  • Add hing and coconut. Roast for 30 sec.
  • Allow it to cool completely and grind it coarsely by adding salt and little water at a time.
  • Serve with hot rice and gingelly oil.
