Keerai Masiyal

I have mentioned the health benefits of green leaves 'n' number of times. So going directly to the recipe. A simple and easy recipe which can be done within 15 mins.

Ingredients:

  • Green leaves - 1 bunch
  • Small onion - 10
  • Tomato - 1
  • Garlic - 8 cloves
  • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Green chilly - 1
  • Toor Dal - 5 tbsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt to taste
For Tempering:
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Red chilly - 1
  • Gingelly oil - 1 tbsp
  • Asafoetida -  a pinch

 Cooking Instructions:

  1.  Pressure cook dal with turmeric powder and 1/2 cup water for 2 whistles.
  2. Once pressure dies open the cooker and add washed green leaves, onion, tomato, garlic, green chilly and cumin seeds. Again pressure cook for 2 whistles.
  3. Mash the leaves nicely.
  4. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once it splutter add red chilly and asafoetida. Add it to the mashed leaves. Adjust salt to taste.
  5. Serve hot with rice and papads.
