Fried Tempura Shrimps/ Shrimp Fry/ Prawn fry/ Golden Shrimps

Prawns - my all time favourite. Though it increases your cholesterol once in a while is ok for me. You can give prawns for kids for weight gain and it is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Generally, I used to do prawn gravy until i learn this one. I'm sure you'll love the taste and stick to this recipe after trying this once. Recently, i went to Thailand for a trip. I learned this recipe there and the ingredients also i bought it from there. Try using the same recipe to enhance the taste. If you are in dubai, you'll get in global village Thailand shop.

Notes:

  • Tempura flour is a combination of Maida, Rice flour, Corn starch, baking powder. If you didn't find this one in your area, you can mix it in this ratio
    • Maida - 2 tbsp
    • Rice flour - 1 tbsp
    • Corn starch - 1tbsp
    • Baking powder - 1/4 tsp

  • Panko is a Japanese style breadcrumbs traditionally used as a coating for deep fried foods.
  • The difference between panko and standard breadcrumbs is that panko is made from bread without crusts.
  • It  is coarsely ground into airy, large flakes that give fried foods a light, crunchy coating. The flakes tend to stay crispier longer than standard breadcrumbs because they don't absorb as much grease.
  • You can make these breadcrumbs at home. All fried stuffs like kfc chicken, mushroom, asparagus can be coated with these crumbs to give extra crunch.

Ingredients:

  • Prawns - 10
  • Tempura Flour - 3 tbsp
  • Ground Pepper - 1 tsp
  • Dried Parsley - 1/2 tsp
  • Panko Breadcrumbs -  for coating
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil - for frying

Cooking Instructions:

  • Mix Tempura flour, pepper, parsley and salt with little water and make a thick batter.
  • Dip the prawns in batter. Allow it to sit for 30 mins.
  • After 30 mins, remove it from the batter and coat the prawns with breadcrumbs. Don't use regular breadcrumbs as it will be soft and you'll not get crunchier feel.
  • Rest in refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours.
  • Add 5 tbsp of oil in a pan. Shallow fry it until all sides are golden brown.
  • Serve it as tea time snack.
