Kerala style Chicken Curry/ Chicken kuruma/ Slow Cooker Chicken Curry

Chicken in almost any form is good for health. Apart from good source of protein, Benefits in weight loss, cholesterol control and rich in calcium. Chicken is the most common type of poultry in the world. This curry is perfect for roti, appam and rice. The recipe is rich in flavour as we are going to add coconut milk in the end. Try this easy and traditional recipe:


Ingredients:

  • Chicken - 250gms 
  • Onion - 1 big
  • Small Onion - 5
  • Ginger garlic paste - 2 tbsp
  • Tomato - 1
  • Thick Curd - 2 tbsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 & 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Garam Masala - 1 tsp
  • Coconut Milk - 1/4 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Coconut oil - 2 tbsp
  • Bay leaves
  • Cinnamon stick - 1 inch
  • Cloves - 1
  • Cardamom - 1

Cooking Instructions:

  • Grind Ginger, garlic and small onion to a smooth paste.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add bay leaves, cinnamon, cloves and cardamom.
  • Add Onion and cook till translucent.
  • Add Ginger garlic paste cook till raw smell goes.
  • Add tomato and cook till mushy.
  • Add Red chilly powder, Coriander powder, Turmeric powder, Garam Masala and little water.
  • Add Curd, Salt and. Mix it gently.
  • Add Chicken and 1/2 cup of water. 
  • Cover and cook in a low flame for 30 mins. Stir occasionally.
  • If cooking in slow cooker then set it to 2hrs instead of the previous step.
  • Once chicken cooked, add coconut milk and cook for a min. Switch off the flame.
  • Remove from the stove and cover with the lid so that the raw smell in the coconut milk goes.
  • Serve with roti, Appam.
