Spinach (Keerai) has a lot of nutrional values. It is low in calories yet very high in vitamins. It is an excellent source of iron, protein and dietary fiber.
It is advised to take spinach in daily life. Today we are going to learn how to do keerai poriyal:
Ingredients:
- Spinach(Arai/Siru/Thandu Keerai) - 2 bunches
- Small Onion - 12 to 15
- Garlic - 3 tbsp chopped
- Cooked Toor Dal - 3 tbsp
- Coconut - 3 tbsp
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Urad dal - 1 tsp
- Red Chilli - 2
- Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Cooking Instructions:
- Wash and drain the leaves. Chop into small pieces. Squeeze the excess water.
- Heat oil in a pan. Add Mustard seeds and allow it to splutters.
- Add Urad dal, Cumin seeds, Red chilly.
- Add Onion and garlic and cook till it turns translucent.
- Add the leaves and cover and cook till the water evaporates. Don't add salt in this stage.
- Once the water evaporates and the leaves shrinks, add cooked dal and salt.
- Add shredded coconut and switch off the flame.
- Serve hot with steam hot rice.
