Appam without yeast

Ingredients:

   Appam                               
      Preparation Time: 15hrs Cooking Time : 10 mins
  • Raw rice - 1 cup
  • Idly rice - 1 cup
  • Aval/ Poha - 1/4 cup
  • Urad dal - 2 tbsp
  • Fenugreek seeds - 1 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Cooking Soda - a pinch


Preparation:

  • Wash and soak rice and poha together for 1 to 2 hrs. Wash and soak Urad dal and fenugreek seed separately for 1 hr.
  • Grind Urad dal to a smooth batter and keep aside. Now grind rice and poha. Mix everything along with salt.
  • Allow it to ferment overnight or till done.
  • Batter should be little bit watery so adjust the water according to the consistency. You can also add coconut milk instead of water.
  • Before making appam, add cooking soda and stir well. Keep aside for 5 mins and not more than that.
  • Heat aapa satti, pour a ladle full of batter and rotate the pan so that the batter spread over all the edges evenly.
  • Drizzle a drop of oil and cover it. Cook in a medium flame till the sides turn brown and crispy.
  • Serve it hot with coconut chutney or coconut milk.
