Ingredients:
Pavakkai Pitlai Cooking Time : 20 mins
- Toor Dal - 1/4 cup
- Bitter gourd - 1
- Tamarind pulp - 1 cup
- Salt to taste
- Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
- Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp
- Asafoetida - a pinch
- Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
- Oil - 2 tsp
For Roasting & Grinding:
- Coriander seeds - 1 tbsp
- Channa dal - 1/2 tbsp
- Urad dal - 1/2 tbsp
- Red chilly - 4
- Coconut - 3 tbsp
Cooking Instructions:
- Wash and rinse toor dal,add turmeric powder,asafoetida and enough water. Pressure cook it along with bitter gourd.
- Roast coriander seeds, channa dal, urad dal and red chilly with a tsp of oil. Keep it aside and in the same pan add coconut and roast till it turn slight brown. Grind everything to a smooth paste.
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds. Allow it to splutter. Then, add tamarind pulp and allow it to boil. Now add the cooked bitter gourd alone.
