Ven Pongal

Ven pongal is one of the regular breakfast on sunday morning during my childhood days. It served along with coconut chutney and sambar.

Ingredients:

   Ven Pongal                                  
      Cooking Time : 20 mins
  • Raw Rice (Pacharisi) - 1 cup
  • Moong Dal - 1/4 cup
  • Ghee - 3 tbsp
  • Pepper - 2 tsp
  • Cumin Seeds - 2 tsp
  • Ginger - 1 inch (Chopped)
  • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  • Green chilly - 1
  • Salt to taste

Cooking Instructions:

  • Wash rice and dal together. Pressure cook it for 5 whistles with 4 cups of water and salt.
  • Heat ghee in a pan, add pepper, cumin seeds, ginger, curry leaves and green chilly.
  • Open the cooker and mash the pongal lightly. Add the tempered items and give a nice stir. Adjust the salt if needed.
  • Serve hot with coconut chutney and sambar.
