Samai Kozhukattai / Little Millet Dumplings

Long time wish to adapt for healthy cooking and at last i tried this samai kozhukattai. I'm damn sure the taste is excellent and this snack is going to be my regular dish once a week. I served it with tomato masala i prepared for tomato rice. Hmmmm yummmyyyyy. Try with tomato or tamarind chutney.

Ingredients:

   Samai Kozhukattai                                   
      Cooking Time : 20 mins
  • Samai - 1/2 cup
  • Coconut - 3 tbsp
  • Green chilly - 1 (Finely chopped)
  • Curry Leaves - 1 sprig (Finely chopped)
  • Water - 1 cup
  • Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil - 1 tsp
  • Asafoetida - a pinch

Cooking Instructions:

  • Wash and drain the millet.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and allow it to splutter. Add urad dal, green chilly and curry leaves.
  • Add water, salt and allow it to boil. (I added hot water from kettle)
  • Add samai and mix it nicely. Cover with lid and cook till it becomes thick.
  • Now add coconut and stir it. Turn off the stove and let it cool for sometime.
  • Make equal size balls or kozhukattai shape.
  • Grease the idly plate and steam it for 5 to 7 mins.
